Connor Powelson M.A. is a Ph.D. candidate and graduate assistant to his advisor, Dr. Rashawn Ray, in the Sociology Department at the University of Maryland, College Park. His research and teaching interests include sociological social psychology, emotions, race/gender/class, social inequality, and mixed methodology. Connor’s current research addresses the mechanisms that influence biased misconduct, accountability, and wellbeing of organization members, particularly among police. His work applies identity and affect control theories to evaluate sub-cultural sentiment expression among groups of varying attitude, race, and gender composition. He is also currently in collaboration with Dr. Ray in an ongoing evaluation of police implicit bias using virtual reality and procedurally generated language technology. In his department, Connor works as Research Assistant for the Lab for Applied Social Science Research (LASSR) and contributes to the Group Processes Laboratory.
