Associate Research Scientist
Yaser Yacoob is an associate research scientist in UMIACS.
His research focuses on detection, tracking and recognition of face expressions, lip reading, body part tracking, modeling and recognition of human activities, augmented reality, human appearance analysis, motion analysis and image segmentation. Moreover, Yacoob developed interactive robots and demonstrated their potential for engaging humans in games and communication.
He has served as a program committee member on several workshops and computer vision conferences. Yacoob has played a role in conducting basic research under many DoD programs sponsored by DARPA, IARPA, and ONR.
He received his doctorate in computer science from the University of Maryland in 1994.
